Lazing on a Sunday afternoon!

Hello everyone - I hope my fellow students are having great placements. I managed to sneak a little time on the internet so you can see a few of my photos. It has been quite cold and as you can see there is quite a bit of snow - just enough for it to look like winter but still be able to get around. I have not ventured too far but did manage to get a little tour last week...
Dave is coming up for the last week of February and we hope to take the ice road down to Moosonee. It is about 3 and half hours each way but there are places there to get Native handiwork and a better Northern Store. Potatoes are on sale here this week for $18.99 for a 10 pound bag. A real bargain I guess since they get as high as $27. Still no high-speed interent or hookup in our houses but they keep saying "soon". We received an I-STAT machine this week which allows us to test blood on the spot for troponins and electrolytes. For you non-medical folk, troponins can tell us if someone is having a heart attack and 'lytes are crucial to every function of the body and can get terribly out of whack for many reasons including medications, chronic illness and dehydration. Imagine - before this we had to wait days to find out these results. We take so much for granted at home...
